Sacharja 12 spricht klar über die geistliche Wiedergeburt der Nation, die durch eine Reinigungstaufe und Feuer im Kapitel 13 weitergeführt wird und im physischen Zurück- kommen des Messias im Kapitel 14 gipfelt.

Bestätigung durch Joel
Wenn wir im Buch Joel nachschauen, scheinen sich unsere Ausführungen zu bestätigen. Gott wird zunächst Seinen geistlichen Spätregen fallen lassen, was zur Erlösung von Israel führen wird. Dies ist derselbe Krieg von Ezechiel 38-39, durch den der Heilige Geist auf Israel ausgegossen wird. In diesem Krieg werden die Heere des Nordens angreifen und Israel wird in sein altes Land zurückkehren. Das wird durch gewaltige Zeichen am Himmel und in der Natur begleitet sein. Am Schluss werden alle Völker gegeneinander im Tal der Entscheidung kämpfen. Ich möchte hier auf die folgende Liste verweisen, die wir in unserer vierten Fortsetzung durchgingen, als wir uns die Erlösung Israels aus der Sicht Joels ansahen.
Spätregen auf Israel
-   Joel 2: 11: Eine Armee mit gewaltiger Zerstörung kommt über Israel
-   Joel 2:12-17: Ein starker Ruf zur Busse in Israel. Er gilt für die Aeltesten, Kinder, Priester, Diener Gottes. Es ist eine feierliche. Versammlung, die sich gleich anhört wie die Beschreibung der Trauer in Sacharja 12: 10-14, wenn die Augen der Völker offen den Messias schauen werden. Dazu kommen wir noch später.
-   Joel 2: 20  Ein sehr klares Wort von Gott, dass er die Armee des Nordens weit von Israel wegschicken und in ein dürres verödetes Land treiben wird, seine Vorhut zum östlichen Meer (Totes Meer) und seine Nachhut zum westlichen Meer (Mittelmeer). Dann erhebt sich ein Gestank. Nun vergleiche diese Worte mit Ezechiel 39: 11-15. Es ist eine Bestätigung, dass wir es hier mit ein und demselben Krieg zu tun haben.
-   Joel 2: 23  Die Verheissung des wohlbekannten Spätregens, der auf die  letzte Erweckung auf der Erde Bezug nimmt. Diese Erweckung wird grösser sein als die an Pfingsten, ähnlich wie der Frühregen und der Spätregen zusammen in Israel den Frühregen übertrifft.
Die Rettung Israels und diese grosse Erweckung werden schliesslich im Tag des Herrn gipfeln, wenn der Herr den Zorn Gottes über Seine Feinde ausgegossen hat. Wir wissen nicht, wie lange die Zeitspanne dieser Erweckung dauern wird. Aber wir wissen um die Verheissung des Herrn, dass jeder, der Seinen Namen anruft, gerettet wird. Denn auf dem Berg Zion und in Jerusalem werden diejenigen, die entflohen sind, auch die Ueberlebenden sein, die Gott ruft.
Das letzte Kapitel in Joel handelt exakt von diesem Gericht über die Völker und den letzten Krieg, bevor der Herr zurückkommt. Es ist der Harmagedon Krieg aus dem Buch der Offenbarung. Die Horden des Antichristen versammeln sich zur Schlacht am grossen Tag des Herrn. Dieser Krieg wird bei der Wiederkunft des Messias stattfinden und ist in Offenbarung 16: 13-18 beschrieben.
Das Tal der Entscheidung
Joel 4
9 Ruft den Völkern zu: Ruft den Heiligen Krieg aus! Bietet eure Kämpfer auf! Alle Krieger sollen anrücken und heraufziehen. 10 Schmiedet Schwerter aus euren Pflugscharen und Lanzen aus euren Winzermessern! Der Schwache soll sagen: Ich bin ein Kämpfer. 11 Eilt alle herbei, versammelt euch, ihr Völker ringsum! Dorthin führe, Herr, deine Kämpfer hinab! 12 Die Völker sollen aufbrechen und heraufziehen zum Tal Joschafat. Denn dort will ich zu Gericht sitzen über alle Völker ringsum. 13 Schwingt die Sichel; denn die Ernte ist reif. Kommt, tretet die Kelter; denn sie ist voll, die Tröge fliessen über. Denn ihre Bosheit ist gross. 14 Getöse und Getümmel herrscht im Tal der Entscheidung; denn der Tag des Herrn ist nahe im Tal der Entscheidung.15 Sonne und Mond verfinstern sich, die Sterne halten ihr Licht zurück. 16 Der Herr brüllt vom Zion, aus Jerusalem dröhnt seine Stimme, so dass Himmel und Erde erbeben. Doch für sein Volk ist der Herr eine Zuflucht, er ist eine Burg für Israels Söhne.
Zwei Kriege: zunächst die Völker ringsum und dann alle Nationen
Beim Anfangskrieg in Sacharja 12 geht es um den Angriff der Armee des Nordens und die Erlösung oder Wiedergeburt des jüdischen Volkes. Beim zweiten Krieg handelt es sich um die Horden des Antichristen, das Gericht über die Völker und die Rückkehr des Messias auf die Erde. Die Bibel nennt den ersten Krieg die Armee des Nordens und den zweiten den Krieg von Harmagedon. Zwischen beiden Konflikten wird die grösste Erweckung aller Zeiten stattfinden und mit ihr auch die letzte Ernte. Gleichzeitig kommt es aber zur grössten Feuer- taufe, die es in der Geschichte ihresgleichen nicht gibt.
Joel 2
27 Dann werdet ihr erkennen, dass ich mitten in Israel bin und dass ich der Herr, euer Gott, bin, ich und sonst niemand. Mein Volk braucht sich nie mehr zu schämen.

Joel 3
1 Danach aber wird es geschehen, dass ich meinen Geist ausgiesse über alles Fleisch. Eure Söhne und Töchter werden Propheten sein, eure Alten werden Träume haben, und eure jungen Männer haben Visionen. 2 Auch über Knechte und Mägde werde ich meinen Geist ausgiessen in jenen Tagen. 3 Ich werde wunderbare Zeichen wirken am Himmel und auf der Erde. Blut und Feuer und Rauchsäulen. 4 Die Sonne wird sich in Finsternis verwandeln und der Mond in Blut, ehe der Tag des Herrn kommt, der grosse und schreckliche Tag.5 Und es wird geschehen: Wer den Namen des Herrn anruft, wird gerettet. Denn auf dem Berg Zion und in Jerusalem gibt es Rettung, wie der Herr gesagt hat, und wen der Herr ruft, der wird entrinnen.

Der neue Tempel
Unmittelbar auf die Ausgiessung des Heiligen Geistes, wie sie am Ende von Ezechiel 39 beschrieben wird, folgt die Beschreibung des Tempels im Kapitel 40. Sacharja und andere Bücher sprechen auch über diesen Tempel. Es ist der dritte Tempel, wo der Antichrist als Gott einziehen wird.
Die Feuertaufe
Die Errettung Israels und die Ausgiessung des Heiligen Geistes in den letzten Tagen wird die schrecklichste Verfolgung von Gottes Volk auslösen, welche die Welt je gesehen hat. Aehnlich wie die ersten Christen durch die Weltmacht Rom verfolgt und ermordet wurden, wird das wiederauflebende Römische Reich unter dem Antichrist Gottes Volk verfolgen.
Matthäus 24
14 Aber dieses Evangelium vom Reich wird auf der ganzen Welt verkündet werden, damit alle Völker es hören, dann erst kommt das Ende 15 Wenn ihr dann am Heiligen Ort den unheilvollen Greuel stehen seht, der durch den Propheten Daniel vorhergesagt worden ist - der Leser begreife -, 16 dann sollen die Bewohner von Judäa in die Berge fliehen; 17 wer gerade auf dem Dach ist, soll nicht mehr ins Haus gehen, um seine Sachen mitzunehmen; 18 wer auf dem Feld ist, soll nicht zurückkehren, um seinen Mantel zu holen. 19 Weh aber den Frauen, die in jenen Tagen schwanger sind oder ein Kind stillen. 20 Betet darum, dass ihr nicht im Winter oder an einem Sabbat fliehen müsst. 21 Denn es wird eine so grosse Not kommen, wie es noch nie eine gegeben hat, seit die Welt besteht, und wie es auch keine mehr geben wird.
Zwei Drittel werden aus dem Land ausgerottet
In Sacharja 13 lesen wir über die grosse Feuertaufe von Israel, im Kapitel 12 wird die Errettung Israels und im Kapitel 14 die Rückkehr des Messias beschrieben. Beten wir ernstlich dafür, dass der Geist der Busse auf Israel kommt, so dass Gott gnädig an seinem geliebten Volk Israel handeln kann.
Sacharja 13
8 Im ganzen Land - Spruch des Herrn - werden zwei Drittel vernichtet, sie werden um- kommen, nur der dritte Teil wird übrig bleiben. 9 Dieses Drittel will ich ins Feuer werfen, um es zu läutern, wie man Silber läutert, um es zu prüfen, wie man Gold prüft. Sie werden meinen Namen anrufen, und ich werde sie er- hören.Ja, ich werde sagen: Es ist mein Volk. Und das Volk wird sagen: Jahwe ist mein Gott.
Bestätigung durch Jesaja
Diese mächtige Erweckung und Verfolgung ist im Buch Jesaja erwähnt. Sieben Frauen werden sich an einen Mann klammern. Es scheint, wie wenn sie ihre Männer im Krieg verloren hätten. Aber inmitten von Not und Konflikt wird der Spross wunderschön und herrlich sein. Gottes Herrlichkeit wird in dieser geistlichen Erweckung sichtbar sein!
Jesaja 4
1 An jenem Tag klammern sich sieben Frauen an einen einzigen Mann und sagen: Wir wollen unser eigenes Brot essen und uns selber kleiden, nur lass uns deinen Namen tragen, nimm die Schande von uns. 2 An jenem Tag wird, was der Herr sprossen lässt, für alle Israeliten, die entronnen sind, eine Zierde und Ehre sein; die Früchte des Landes sind ihr Stolz und Ruhm. 3 Dann wird der Rest von Zion, und wer in Jerusalem noch übrig ist, heilig genannt werden, jeder, der in Jerusalem in das Verzeichnis derer, die am Leben bleiben sollen, eingetragen ist. 4 Wenn der Herr durch den Sturm des Gerichts und der Läuterung von den Töchtern Zions den Kot abgewaschen und aus Jerusalems Mitte die Blutschuld weggespült hat. 5 Dann kommt er, und über dem ganzen Gebiet des Berges Zion und seinen Festplätzen erscheint bei Tag eine Wolke und bei Nacht Rauch und eine strahlende Feuerflamme. Denn über allem liegt als Schutz und Schirm die Herrlichkeit des Herrn. 4 Sie spendet bei Tag Schatten vor der Hitze und ist Zuflucht und Obdach bei Unwetter und Regen.

Errettung von Israel in Sacharja 12
In unserer letzten Folge der Serie "Die letzten Kriege" haben wir die Erlösung des jüdischen Volkes aus der Perspektive der Prophetien von Sacharja skizziert. Wir haben den Rundbrief mit Sacharja 12 abgeschlossen, mit dem die Geulat Israel, die Erlösung des Hauses Israel, beginnt. Dies wird geschehen, wenn der Heilige Geist auf das Haus David und die Einwohner Jerusalems ausge-gossen wird und sie den Einen erkennen werden, den sie durchbohrt haben. Der geistliche Wiederaufbau der Nation wird in einem Umfeld von intensivem Konflikt und Krieg um Jerusalem stattfinden. Dieser Konflikt wird zunächst durch die benachbarten islamischen Länder beginnen, gefolgt durch mehrere Länder der Völkergemeinschaft, die ihren eigenen Plan für Jerusalem haben. Ein Plan, der im Widerspruch zu Gottes Bund mit Jerusalem steht.

Sacharja: eine prophetische Reihenfolge der geistlichen Wiedergeburt und Taufe Israels, Rückkehr des Messias
In den Kapiteln 12 bis 14 spricht Sacharja einige wichtige Endzeitthemen an:
Kapitel 12:  Erlösung des jüdischen Volkes
Kapitel 13:  Die anschliessende Taufreinigung des Volkes und die starke Feuertaufe, die darauf folgt.
Kapitel 14:  Rückkehr von Jeschua auf den Oelberg und der Anbruch der tausend  Jahre Frieden
Aus Sacharjas Ausführungen ist nicht ganz klar ersichtlich, was die Zeitspanne für die Erlösung und das Wiederkommen des Messias ist. Es scheint so zu sein, dass zunächst ihre geistlichen Augen geöffnet werden. Dann folgt eine starke Verfolgung und Zerstörung in Jerusalem, bevor der Herr schliesslich seinen Fuss auf den Oelberg setzt. Auf den Berg, von wo Er nach Seiner Auferstehung aufgefahren ist. Andere Prophetien scheinen mit dieser Reihenfolge überein zu stimmen.
Sacharja 12
Doch über das Haus David und über die Einwohner Jerusalems werde ich den Geist des Mitleids und des Gebets ausgiessen.
Und sie werden auf den blicken, den sie durchbohrt haben. Sie werden um ihn klagen, wie man um den einzigen Sohn klagt; sie werden bitter um ihn weinen, wie man um den Erstgeborenen weint.
11 An jenem Tag wird die Totenklage in Jerusalem so laut sein wie die Klage um Hadad-Rimmon in der Ebene von Meggido.
Schaut auf mich, den sie durchbohrt haben
Zunächst etwas zur geistlichen Wiedergeburt der Nation. Das spezielle hebräische Wort "blicken auf" im Vers 10 wird in der Bibel zum ersten Mal gebraucht, als Gott Abraham aufforderte, er solle zum Himmel hinaufschauen und die Sterne zählen.
1. Mose 15
5 Er führte ihn hinaus und sprach: Sieh doch zum Himmel hinauf, und zähl die Sterne, wenn du sie zählen kannst. Und er sprach zu ihm, so zahlreich werden deine Nachkommen sein.
Wir begegnen diesem Wort ein zweites Mal dort, wo Lots Familie geraten wird, nicht auf die Zerstörung Sodoms zurückzublicken. Dann taucht dasselbe Wort bei Gottes Erscheinung im brennenden Busch vor Mose auf.
Exodus 3
6 Dann fuhr er fort: Ich bin der Gott deines Vaters, der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs. Da verhüllte Mose sein Gesicht, denn er fürchtete sich, Gott anzu- schauen.
Mose und die kupferne Schlange
Und schliesslich finden wir dieses Wort "blicken auf" in der bekannten Begebenheit in der Wüste, wo die Israeliten durch Schlangen gebissen wurden und sie zu der kupfernen Schlange aufblicken mussten, die Mose anfertigte.
4. Mose 21
9 Mose machte also eine  Schlange aus Kupfer und hängte sie an einer Fahnenstange auf. Wenn nun jemand von einer Schlange gebissen wurde und zu der Kupferschlange AUFBLICKTE, blieb er am Leben.
Es ist die Schlange, die Jesus in seiner Diskussion mit Nikodemus erwähnt, dem Leiter des jüdischen Sanhedrin, wenn er über die neue Geburt spricht:
Johannes 3
14 Und wie Mose die Schlange in der Wüste erhöht hat, so muss der Menschensohn erhöht werden,
15 damit jeder, der (an ihn) glaubt, in ihm das ewige Leben hat.
Die neue Geburt passiert, indem wir das Lamm Gottes im Glauben anblicken, das für uns zur Sünde wurde, sodass wir durch JESUS Gerechtigkeit erlangen können.

Aufgrund dieser Erklärungen scheint es klar zu sein, dass Sacharja 12 zum jüdischen Volk spricht, das zum auferstandenen Messias aufblickt, bevor Er zum zweiten Mal kommt.
Das Gottesbild
Das Wort "anschauen" oder "anblicken" kommt in der Schrift im folgenden Kontext vor:
4. Mose 12
8 Mit ihm rede ich von Mund zu Mund, von Angesicht zu Angesicht, nicht in Rätseln. Er darf die Gestalt des Herrn sehen. Warum habt ihr es gewagt, über meinen Knecht Mose zu reden?
Wir wissen, dass der Herr zu Mose gesagt hat, er könne nicht das Angesicht Gottes sehen und am Leben bleiben. Was ist dann diese Gestalt (exakt übersetzt "Aehnlichkeit"), die Mose schaute? Das hebräische Wort für "Gestalt" ist "Temunah", was im modernen Hebräisch "Bild" meint.
8544 temuwnah (temunah)
von 4327: etwas aufhellen, zu einer Form ausgestalten, d.h. (unbestimmt) Phantom, oder (genau) Verkörperung, oder (bildlich) Bekundung (von Gunst). In der englischen Bibelübersetzung KJV durch "Bild", "Aehnlichkeit" übersetzt.
Dieses Wort kommt auch in der Torah (Gesetz) vor, wo Gott das Schaffen eines Gottes- bildes verbietet.
Exodus 20
4 Du sollst dir kein Gottesbild machen und keine Darstellung von irgend etwas am Himmel droben, auf der Erde unten oder im Wasser unter der Erde.
Ich vermute, dass Mose in Wirklichkeit Jeschua, Jesus selbst gesehen hatte, noch bevor Er auf die Erde kam. Das Wort Gottes sagt klar, was das wahre Bildnis Gottes ist:
2. Korinther 4
3 Wenn unser Evangelium dennoch verhüllt ist, ist es nur denen verhüllt, die verloren gehen;
4 denn der Gott dieser Weltzeit hat das Denken der Ungläubigen verblendet. So strahlt ihnen der Glanz der Herrlichkeit nicht auf, der Botschaft von der Herrlichkeit Christi, der GOTTES EBENBILD ist.
Auch im Kolosserbrief finden wir eine Bestätigung des einzig wahren Ebenbild Gottes:
Kolosser 1
15 Er ist das Ebenbild des unsichtbaren Gottes, der Erstgeborene der ganzen Schöpfung:
16 Denn in ihm wurde alles erschaffen im Himmel und auf Erden, das Sichtbare und das Unsichtbare, Throne und Herrschaften, Mächte und Gewalten; alles ist durch ihn und auf ihn hin geschaffen.
17 Er ist vor aller Schöpfung, in ihm hat alles Bestand.
Eine Quelle zur Reinigung von Sünde und Unreinheit
Darauf folgt in Sacharja die Beschreibung eines Vorgangs, den wir auch als nationale Taufe bezeichnen könnten, es sei denn es handle sich um einen symbolischen Akt.
Sacharja 13
1 An jenem Tag wird für das Haus David und für die Einwohner Jerusalems eine Quelle fliessen zur Reinigung von Sünde und Unreinheit.
Als die Urkirche an Pfingsten geboren wurde, wurden alle 3000 getauft, die an den Herrn Jesus glaubten. Ich glaube, dasselbe wird geschehen, wenn sie gerettet werden. Vielleicht wird die Gihon-Quelle der hauptsächliche Taufort sein. Sie war die Wasserversorgung der alten Stadt Davids (Zion, d.h. Davids Hauptsitz, als er Jerusalem gründete) und gibt bis heute nach 3000 Jahren immer noch Wasser!
Der Angriff auf Jerusalem
Sacharja macht auch nicht klar, welche Nationen an diesem Angriff teilnehmen werden. Dennoch gibt es einen Hinweis in Sacharja 12, dass es sich zunächst um einen Angriff durch die Nachbarvölker handeln könnte, auf den ein allumfassender Weltkrieg folgen würde. Betrachtet folgendes:
Sacharja 12
1 Ausspruch. Das Wort des Herrn über Israel. Der Spruch des Herrn, der den Himmel ausgespannt, die Erde gegründet und den Geist im Innern des Menschen geformt hat:
2 Seht, ich mache Jerusalem zur Schale voll berauschendem Getränk für alle Völker ringsum (und auch für Juda wird dies gelten bei der Belagerung Jerusalems).
Das hebräische Wort für "ringsum" ist:
5439 saviv (sa-wiw) von 5437: eine einfache Wurzel, drehen, umgeben oder Grenze. Wird in verschiedenen Zusammenhängen buchstäblich und bildlich wie folgt gebraucht: ein Kreis, Nachbar, Umgebung, von allen Seiten, aber hauptsächlich ringsum.

Aber dieses Geschehen geht folgendermassen weiter:
3 An jenem Tag mache ich Jerusalem für alle Völker zum Stein, den man hochstemmen will: Jeder, der ihn hebt, wird schwer zerschunden. Alle Völker der Erde werden sich gegen Jerusalem verbünden.
Diese Schriftstelle ist sehr klar. Alle Nationen sind alle Nationen: "alle Völker der Erde werden sich verbünden". Das wird in Sacharja 14 betreffend der Rückkehr des Messias zum Oelberg nochmals wiederholt.
Sacharja 14
2 Denn ich versammle alle Völker zum Krieg gegen Jerusalem. Die Stadt wird erobert, die Häuser werden geplündert, die Frauen geschändet. Die Hälfte der Stadt zieht in die Verbannung; aber der Rest des Volkes wird nicht aus der Stadt vertrieben. 3 Doch dann wird der Herr hinausziehen und gegen diese Völker Krieg führen und kämpfen, wie nur er kämpft am Tag der Schlacht. 4 Seine Füsse werden an jenem Tag auf dem Oelberg stehen, der im Osten gegenüber von Jerusalem liegt. Der Oelberg wird sich in der Mitte spalten, und es entsteht ein gewaltiges Tal von Osten nach Westen. Die eine Hälfte des Berges weicht nach Norden die andere Hälfte nach Süden.

In our last instalment on Israel's last wars we looked at the salvation of the Jewish people from the perspective of the prophecies of Zechariah. We ended the letter with Zechariah 12:10 where the GEULAT ISRAEL, the Redemption of the House of Israel, started.
This happens when the Holy Spirit is poured out on the House of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and they recognize the ONE that they have pierced. The spiritual regeneration of the nation takes place within the context of an intense conflict and war over Jerusalem. This conflict is perpetrated by the surrounding Islamic nations and followed by the greater international community, all of which have their own agenda for JERUSALEM, contrary to GOD's covenant with Israel.
ZECHARIAH: THE PROPHETIC SEQUENCE OF ISRAEL'S SPIRITUAL REBIRTH, BAPTISM AND THE RETURN OF THE MESSIAH
From chapters 12 to 14 the book of Zechariah touches on some major issues concerning the end times::

Chapter 12: the Salvation of the Jewish people
Chapter 13: The subsequent baptismal cleansing of the nation, and the severe baptism of fire that follows
Chapter 14: The return of YESHUA to the Mount of Olives and the dawn of the Millennium of PEACE.

It is not completely clear from Zechariah's prophecies what the time frame for the salvation and the return of the Messiah is . It seems to be that first their spiritual eyes are opened, followed by a time of intense persecution and destruction in Jerusalem before the LORD finally returns to the Mount of Olives. The mountain from where HE departed after His resurrection. With this scenario other prophecies seem to be in agreement. Let us look at the scriptures:

Zechariah Chapter 12
10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the  spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. 11 In that day shall there be a great
mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.
LOOK UPON ME WHOM THEY HAVE PIERCED
First the spiritual rebirth of the nation: When the special Hebrew word for "look upon" (me whom they have pierced) in verse 10 is used in the BIBLE for the first time, it appears in the Scripture where Abraham is commanded by GOD to look up to the heavens and count the stars:
Gen 15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
The second time we encounter this word it is where Lot's household are advised not to look upon the destruction of Sodom.
This is followed by God's appearance to Moses in the burning bush:
Exodus 3:6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of
Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
MOSES AND THE BRAZEN SERPENT
After this the word "LOOK AT" appears in the famous occurrence in the desert where the Israelites were bitten by snakes and they had to look at the brazen serpent Moses was to make:
Numbers Chapter 21:9
And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he BEHELD the serpent of brass, he lived.
This is the serpent that JESUS quotes in His discourse with Nicodemus, a leader of the Jewish Sanhedrin, when He addresses the issue of the NEW BIRTH:
John Chapter 3
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
The new birth takes place when we BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD in faith. The ONE that was made sin on our behalf so that we can receive the righteousness of GOD through HIM. From the above scriptures it seems to be clear that Zechariah 12 deals with a Jewish people looking upon the risen MESSIAH in faith, BEFORE His second coming actually takes place.
THE IMAGE OF GOD
The word "look at" or "behold" also appears in the Scriptures in the following context:
Num 12:8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the SIMILITUDE of the LORD shall he BEHOLD: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
We know that God said to Moses that he could not see HIS FACE and live. So what is this similitude that Moses beheld? The Hebrew word for SIMILITUDE here is the TEMUWNAH, the modern word in Hebrew meaning PICTURE.
Strongs: 8544 temuwnah (tem-oo-naw');
from 4327; something portioned (i.e. fashioned) out, as a shape, i.e. (indefinitely) phantom, or (specifically) embodiment, or (figuratively) manifestation (of favor): KJV-- image, likeness, similitude.
This word also features in the TORAH (the LAW) where GOD forbids the making of any LIKENESS or PICTURE of HIM:
Exodus Chapter 20
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that  is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
My suggestion is that Moses actually beheld YESHUA, JESUS long before HE came to earth. The WORD of GOD is clear what the true similitude or LIKENESS of GOD really is:
II Corinthians Chapter 4
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the IMAGE of GOD, should shine unto them.
And again in Colossians we have the confirmation of the only and true image or likeness of GOD:
Colossians Chapter 1
15 Who is the IMAGE of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
A FOUNTAIN FOR SIN AND UNCLEANNESS
This event is followed by a description of what seems to be a national BAPTISM unless it is symbolically meant::
Zechariah Chapter 13
1 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.
When the early church was birthed on Pentecost all 3000 who believed in the LORD JESUS were baptized. I believe the same will happen when Israel is saved. The major baptismal site probably will be the Spring of Gihon, the original fresh water supply to the ancient City of David (Zion, David's headquarters when he founded Jerusalem), which is still running today after 3000 years!
THE ONSLAUGHT ON JERUSALEM
It is not clear from Zechariah which nations will be involved in this onslaught on Israel. Zechariah 12 does give an indication though that it may first be an onslaught from the nations around Israel; followed by an all out war by all the nations of the earth. Look at the following:
Zechariah Chapter 12
1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him. 2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round
about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
The Hebrew word for "round about" is:
5439 saviv (saw-veev') from 5437;
a primitive root; to revolve, surround, or border; used in various applications, literally and figuratively (as follows): a circle, neighbour, or environs; on every  side but chiefly around:
But this event is immediately followed by the next scripture
3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
This scripture of course is quite clear. All nations are all nations: "though all the people of the earth be gathered against it". This is repeated in Zechariah 14 with the return of the Messiah to the Mount of Olives:

2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. 3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. 4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north.

Early one morning Israel was shaken by another suicide bomb. The attack occurred on bus 32 coming from Gilo into Jerusalem central. The suicide bomber struck at rush hour traffic when there were several children on their way to school. The death toll is already 19 and over 40 injured. Many probably maimed for life.
BUS 32
For us this bus bomb really hit home. Bus 32 is the bus that we used almost daily from our previous apartment to the center of town. It is also a bus that our young Israeli friend, Paul, takes to town and back. Paul is part of our video fellowship Shaar Tikva (Gate of Hope Productions). At the moment we are editing a production for a Torah school for young people here in Jerusalem. We were working behind schedule and Paul thought about coming in early this morning. For some reason he changed his mind and was not on this bus. In the morning I was looking at Psalm 91:
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
The Hebrew word for FOWLER here indicates someone that catches birds in a trap or a snare. And so it is with the suicide bombers here in Israel. Their device is to lay a trap for innocent civilians so as to violently maim them or bring their life to an end. Before these bombs go off Christians get sick or horribly depressed and frustrated. This even starts days before the actual attack comes.
There is this reason that I have come up with after seeing and experiencing this for years: It is the impact of the immense evil that is released into the air with every suicide bomb that is going to strike. This evil impacts spiritually long before the deed explodes. Also on the inner man of those called as watchmen to this city:
Isaiah Chapter 62
6 I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, 7 and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.
EUROPE'S COURTING WITH EVIL
This morning we also received the news of the breakaway between the European Union and the USA on their treatment of Iraq and Iran. Iraq and Iran are two countries with serious involvement in terrorism and an intense hatred for Israel. The European Union has decided to officially go the way with these countries rather than side with the USA's plans to attack the terror network within them. Europe will have to face the consequences of a decision like this at a later time.
ANT-SEMITISM AND GOD'S AUTHORITY
But when you are dealing with an evil such as anti-Semitism there is no logic involved. No matter what Israel does to accommodate the demands of the nations she will always be wrong. It is like playing against a loaded dice. A dice that favours the Islamic nations against you because the real problem of the nations is with the authority of the living GOD. And this is what Jerusalem is all about. There is a battle going on over the Jewish authority that the LORD restored to this city in 1967 with the Six Day War. A fact that neither Islam nor the nations of the world wants to or will accept. And sad to say, neither a great part of the Christian Church either!
1996 UN VOTE ON JERUSALEM
No wonder that a vote of a 133 nations against 1 in the United Nations in 1996 could declare that Jerusalem is the illegitimate Capital of the Jews. The only nation voting against this being Israel herself! When you read things like this you come to understand how absolute exact and relative the ancient words of a prophet like Zechariah really is, and how perfectly his prophecies are being fulfilled thousands of years later.
But what an encouragement too, that there truly is a living GOD, that is in control of things and bring them to pass in perfect precision. And more than this, that HE is a compassionate GOD, a gracious GOD whom we can seek and relate to through the awesome mercy HE has extended to each one of us 2000 years ago!
ZECHARIAH 12
The early verses of Zechariah 12 rings out clear today, 2 500 years after they had been uttered: How awesome to think that we as tiny individuals from a world population of 6 billion people are actually living now in the time of the fulfilment of these words!
Zechariah Chapter 12
3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
In the previous part we had a look at GOD's end time purposes with Jerusalem, to restore the Jewish Capital until the return of the Messiah. The LORD also clearly tells us that this process will involve a direct rebellion of the governments of the world against HIS end time plans and purposes for this city.
These rulers and kings will and already have their own agenda for this city. An agenda that is at its very chore anti-GOD and anti-Semitic. Why? Because GOD chose Israel in His sovereign choice. To bring the Messiah to earth and to bring HIM back. Salvation is of the Jews. There can be no other way! It is as simple as this.
TO DIVIDE JERUSALEM AGAIN
It is the area of Jerusalem that GOD restored to the Jews in 1967 that Yasser Arafat and his Islamic suicide bombers want as their Capital for a Palestinian State. The very way they are acting to achieve this clearly tells us what evil is lurking behind the re-division of Jerusalem as the eternal Jewish Capital. Friends, we are dealing with an immense evil.
However, GOD uses evil for His own purposes and for His own good. Did you ever read in Jeremiah 1 how the LORD first showed Jeremiah the rod of an almond tree, signifying His WORD and GOD's faithfulness to perform it. And immediately after this a boiling pot facing from the north, signifying evil that is to break forth from the north. Such is GOD's WORD too regarding the restoration of Jerusalem.
We have seen the miraculous reunification of Jerusalem as the Jewish Capital after thousands of years. But with this also the evil that is breaking forth from the powers of darkness. The boiling pot....to bring about God's purpose: To make Jerusalem a praise in all the earth.
Isaiah Chapter 62
1 For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch. 2 The nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will bestow.
THE CONFLICT THAT BRINGS ABOUT GOD'S PURPOSES
How is this process to take place? Through such tremendous conflict wherein GOD will take over on Israel's behalf and fight against her enemies.
Zechariah Chapter 12
3 On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.
But in the midst of this supernatural battle something else will happen: You can read for yourself:
Zechariah Chapter 12
7 "The LORD will save the dwellings of Judah first, so that the honour of the house of David and of Jerusalem's inhabitants may not be greater than that of Judah. 9 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

At this point the redemption of the House of Israel has started. The so-called Geulat Israel.

Israel wurde beim Schreiben dieses Teiles in der Früh durch eine weitere Bombenattacke erschüttert. Der Anschlag ereignete sich auf Bus 32, der von Gilo ins Zentrum von Jerusalem unterwegs war Der Selbstmordattentäter hat sich in der Stosszeit angezündet, als viele Kinder auf ihrem Weg in die Schule waren. Die Anzahl der Toten erreichte 19 und ca. 40 Menschen wurden verletzt. Viele von ihnen sind wahrscheinlich lebenslang verstümmelt.
Uns hatte diese Bombe wirklich ins Herz getroffen. Wir nahmen früher fast täglich diesen Bus von unserer vorherigen Wohnung zum Stadtzentrum. Mit diesem Bus fährt auch unser junger israelischer Freund Paul in die Stadt und zurück. Paul ist ein Teil der Video- gemeinschaft Schaar Tikva (Produktion "Tor der Hoffnung"). Wir sind daran, eine Produktion für eine Torah Schule für junge Leute hier in Jerusalem zu editieren. Wir befinden uns ein wenig in Verzug und Paul dachte, er komme heute morgen etwas früher. Aus irgendeinem Grund überlegte er sich es aber und nahm nicht diesen Bus.
In Psalm 91 lesen wir:
2 ...der sagt zum Herrn: "Du bist meine Zuflucht und Burg, mein Gott, dem ich vertraue."
3 Er rettet dich aus der Schlinge des Jägers und aus allem Verderben.
Das Hebräische Wort für "Jäger" bedeutet hier, jemand der Vögel fängt oder Fallen legt. Und so ist es auch mit den Selbstmordattentätern hier in Israel. Ihre Geräte dienen zum Fangen von unschuldigen Zivilisten, um sie gewalttätig zu verstümmeln oder ihrem Leben ein Ende zu setzen. Bevor diese Bomben explodieren, werden Christen krank oder schrecklich depressiv und frustriert.
Meistens fängt das Tage vor dem eigentlichen Anschlag an. Es gibt einen Grund, der mir nach jahrelanger Beobachtung und Erfahrung aufgefallen ist. Es ist die gewaltige Wucht des Bösen, die mit jedem Bombenanschlag in die Luft freigesetzt wird. Das Böse schlägt geistlich lange vor der Explosion zu. Auch für diejenigen, die Wächter der Stadt sind.
Jesaja 62
6 Auf deine Mauern, Jerusalem, stelle ich Wächter. Weder bei Tag noch bei Nacht dürfen sie schweigen. Ihr, die ihr den Herrn (an Zion) erinnern sollt, gönnt euch keine Ruhe!
7 Lasst auch ihm keine Ruhe, bis er Jerusalem wieder aufbaut, bis er es auf der ganzen Erde berühmt macht.
Spaltung - USA und Europa
In den Nachricht wurde über das Auseinandergehen der Europäischen Union und der USA betreffend ihrer Politik gegenüber dem Irak und Iran berichtet. Die Länder Irak und Iran sind ernsthaft in den Terrorismus verwickelt und hassen Israel intensiv. Die EU hat sich entschieden, auf die Seite dieser Länder zu gehen, anstatt die Pläne der USA zur Zerstörung des terroristischen Netzwerks zu unterstützen. Europa wird später die Folgen dieser Entscheidung zu tragen haben.
Wenn man aber mit so einem Uebel wie Antisemitismus zu tun hat, findet man keine Logik dahinter. Was auch immer Israel unternimmt, um den Anforderungen der Völkergemein- schaft entgegenzukommen, es wird immer falsch sein. Es ist wie ein Spiel mit einem gezinkten Würfel, der immer die islamischen Nationen bevorzugt, denn die Nationen haben ein Problem mit dem lebendigen Gott.
Und genau das passiert in Jerusalem. Es findet ein Kampf um die jüdische Herrschaft über Jerusalem statt, die der Herr im Sechstage-Krieg den Israelis wieder gegeben hat. Es ist eine Tatsache, die weder der Islam noch die übrigen Länder der Welt akzeptieren werden oder wollen. Und es ist traurig, dass auch die Mehrheit der christlichen Kirche so denkt!
1996: Abstimmung über JerusalemEs ist also kein Wunder, dass 1996 während einer Abstimmung im Sicherheitsrat der Vereinten Nationen 133 Nationen gegen eine Stimme Jerusalem als illegitime Hauptstadt der Juden erklärten. Das einzige Land, das gegen diesen Beschluss abstimmte, war Israel!
Wenn man Nachrichten wie diese hier liest, versteht man, wie exakt und relevant die alten Worte des Propheten Sacharja sind und wie genau seine Prophetien Jahrtausende später in Erfüllung gehen. Aber es ist auch eine grosse Ermutigung, dass es einen lebendigen Gott gibt, der alles unter seiner Kontrolle hat und alles genau richtig geschehen lässt. Und mehr als das, ER ist ein mitfühlender Gott, ein gnädiger Gott, den wir suchen und mit dem wir eine Beziehung haben dürfen, dank dem grossen Erbarmen, das er uns vor 2000 Jahren erwiesen hat!
Die ersten Verse von Sacharja 12 erklingen auch heute laut, und das 2500 Jahre nachdem sie ausgesprochen wurden. Wie ehrfurchtgebietend ist es, sich vorzustellen, dass wir kleinen Leute in der heutigen Weltbevölkerung von sechs Milliarden Menschen die Erfüllung dieser Worte erleben!
Im vorherigen Teil erklärten wir Gottes endzeitliche Absichten mit Jerusalem, die jüdische Hauptstadt bis zum Kommen des Messias wiederherzustellen. Dennoch sagt uns der Herr klar, dass dieser Prozess mit der direkten Rebellion der Regierungen gegen Seinen Endzeitplan und Absichten begleitet sein wird. Diese Herrscher und Könige haben bereits ihr Programm für Jerusalem, ein Programm, das sich gegen Gott und die Juden richtet. Warum? Weil Gott in Seiner Souveränität Israel auserwählt hat.
Dort kam der Messias auf die Erde und dorthin wird er zurückkehren. Das Heil kommt von den Juden. Es gibt keinen anderen Weg! So einfach ist es.
Die Verteilung Jerusalems
Es ist das Gebiet von Jerusalem, das Gott den Juden 1967 zurückgab und das Yassir Arafat und seine islamischen Selbstmordattentäter als ihre Hauptstadt des palästinensischen Staates haben wollen. Die Art und Weise, wie sie das erreichen wollen, zeigt uns klar, wie böse die Kräfte sind, die Jerusalem - ewige jüdische Hauptstadt - aufteilen wollen. Freunde, wir haben es da mit enormer Schlechtigkeit zu tun!
Trotzdem braucht Gott das Böse für seine eigenen Absichten und fürs Gute. Erinnert ihr euch, wie der Herr Jeremia zunächst die Mandelrute zeigte, womit er sagen wollte, dass Gott über dem Wort wacht, um es zu vollbringen. Und unmittelbar danach sah Jeremia einen dampfenden Kessel, wie er sich von Norden her neigt. Er bedeutet das Böse, das vom Norden her ausbricht. So ist auch Gottes Wort, wenn es um die Wiederherstellung Jerusalems geht.
Wir haben die wunderbare Wiedervereinigung Jerusalems als jüdische Hauptstadt nach Tausenden von Jahren gesehen. Andererseits werden damit auch die Kräfte der Finster- nis freigesetzt.... der dampfende Kessel. Aber das alles dient dazu, Gottes Absichten zu verwirklichen: Jerusalem auf der Erde berühmt zu machen.
Jesaja 62
1 Um Zions willen kann ich nicht schweigen, um Jerusalems willen nicht still sein, bis das Recht in ihm aufstrahlt wie ein helles Licht und sein Heil aufleuchtet wie eine brennende Fackel.
2 Dann sehen die Völker deine Gerechtigkeit und alle Könige deine strahlende Pracht. Man ruft dich mit einem neuen Namen, den der Mund des Herrn für dich bestimmt.
Der Konflikt, den Gott gebrauchen wird!
Wie soll das alles geschehen? Durch diesen schrecklichen Konflikt, in dem Gott an Stelle Israels gegen seine Feinde kämpfen wird. Mitten in dieser übernatürlichen Schlacht wird Gott selbst eingreifen.
Sacharja 12
3 An jenem Tag mache ich Jerusalem für alle Völker zum Stein, den man hochstemmen will: Jeder, der ihn hebt, wird schwer zerschunden. Alle Völker der Erde werden sich gegen Jerusalem verbünden.
7 Dann wird der Herr zuerst die Zelte Judas retten, damit der Stolz des Hauses Davids und der Stolz der Einwohner Jerusalems nicht zu gross wird gegenüber Juda.
9 An jenem Tag werde ich danach trachten, alle Völker zu vernichten, die gegen Jerusalem anrücken.
10 Doch über das Haus David und über die Einwohner Jerusalems werde ich den Geist des Mitleids und des Gebets ausgiessen. Und sie werden auf den blicken, den sie durchbohrt haben. Sie werden um ihn klagen, wie man um den einzigen Sohn klagt; sie werden bitter um ihn weinen, wie man um den Erstgeborenen weint.
Die Erlösung des Hauses Israel hat begonnen, die sogenannte Geulat Israel.

As I was writing this part, Israel was in deep grief over yet another serious suicide attack. In a new diabolical strategy against the nation, a suicide bomber, in a car packed with explosives, drove right into a bus at the Megiddo Junction. The pictures of the charred remains of the bus was shown on television here in Israel. Many were killed and most of the casualties were soldiers. Last night and this morning I saw their young faces on the news.
One significant fact about this car bomb is its date - June 5 - it is the day that the Six Day War started in 1967. It was this amazing war that liberated Jerusalem. So that the City of the Great King came back under a united Jewish authority after thousands of years! Psalm 48:1-2, Luke 21:24, Matt 5:35.
This war took place after various Arab nations, led by Egypt, endeavored to wipe Israel from the face of the earth. However, the LORD gave Israel the victory in 6 short days. And what is prophetically so significant: Jerusalem as the prize, the undivided Capital of the modern Jewish State after thousands of years!
WHICH AREAS WERE LIBERATED?
The area that was liberated in 1967 include the ancient City of David, called Zion. It is this spot from which Jerusalem sprang forth as the Capital of Israel in David's time. It also includes the Temple Mount where once stood the glorious first temple of Solomon, and the second temple in the time of Zerubavel, Yeshua and Nehemia. It includes the Old City of Jerusalem and the Wailing Wall. It includes the Mount of Olives, where YESHUA's agony started at the Garden of Getshemane, and where He was taken up to heaven after His resurrection. The same mountain where He will come back according Scripture:
Zechariah chapter 14: 4 On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south.
It is this Book of Zechariah and the centrality of Jerusalem that we will start to look at in this installment of the last wars that Israel will have to fight. It is this amazing victory in 1967 that the forces of hell wants to undo. It is the united Jewish authority over Jerusalem that they are after. It is the area that was liberated in 1967 that Yasser Arafat and his murderous terrorist network want as their Capital. In the end it actually boils down to the awesome acts of GOD that the powers of darkness want to negate.
MEGIDDO
It is also very significant that this suicide bomb occurred at the Megiddo Junction. Megiddo is the very place where the future war against the hordes of the anti-Christ will be fought. The War of Armageddon which we covered in the previous section. The last war before the return of Christ.
Revelation Chapter 16
16 And they gathered them together into the place which is called in Hebrew Har-Magedon.
ZECHARIAH AND JERUSALEM
We would like to look at the salvation of Israel now from the angle of the prophecies of the book of Zechariah. Zechariah is one of the clearest prophetic voices of the latter day restoration of Jerusalem and its future glory. It deals with Jerusalem in a very central way regarding GOD's redemptive purposes for Israel and the earth. Zechariah is so rich in its depth that we can only touch the surface of it in this part and the next! If you are interested in a more extensive commentary you are welcome to write to us. We have much more to say on this book.
The book opens with a series of eight visions after a short call to repentance.
1. The vision of the man and the horses to patrol the earth. God's purposes to return the Jewish people to their ancient homeland and to restore Jerusalem. In this vision GOD in no unclear way proclaims His heart for this city:
Zechariah Chapter 1
14 Then the angel who was speaking to me said, "Proclaim this word: This is what the LORD Almighty says: `I am very jealous for Jerusalem and Zion, 15 but I am very angry with the nations that feel secure. I was only a little angry, but they added to the calamity.' 16 "Therefore, this is what the LORD says: `I will return to Jerusalem with mercy, and there my house will berebuilt. And the measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem,' declares the LORD Almighty. 17 "Proclaim further: This is what the LORD Almighty says: `My towns will again overflow with prosperity, and the LORD will again comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem.'"2. The four horns and the craftsmen. The horns represent the powers that scattered Judah. The strength of the nations that lifted up their authority against the land of Israel to scatter the Jewish people (Judah). We also see this in operation today as the nations endeavor to divide Israel and Jerusalem to create a Palestinian State.
3.The vision of the man with the measuring line: an apocalyptic glimpse of GOD's beautiful, peaceful City. Let us look at some verses
Zechariah Chapter 2
4 and said to him: "Run, tell that young man, `Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of men and livestock in it. 5 And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,' eclares the LORD, `and I will be its glory within.' 6 "Come! Come! Flee from the land of the north," declares the LORD, "for I have scattered you to the four winds of heaven," declares the LORD.
It is in this chapter that GOD clearly expresses His true feelings and compassion for the Jewish people. It is good for every Gentile to take note of this, less one fails to see GOD's angle on the tragedy and restoration of this people!
8 For this is what the LORD Almighty says: "After he has honoured me and has sent me against the nations that have plundered you-- for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye--
And to remember that the absolute center of the future Messianic order will not be seated in the cities of America or Europe. But in Jerusalem, Israel.
11 "Many nations will be joined with the LORD in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you. 12 The LORD will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land and will again choose Jerusalem. 13 Be still before the LORD, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling."
4.The vision of Joshua the High Priest in chapter 3, portraying the cleansing of sin and future Messianic order
5.The awesome vision of the Lampstand amongst the Olive trees in chapter 4. The work of the Holy Spirit in bringing GOD's end time purposes to pass
6. The flying scroll of chapter 5: a curse that goes out over all the earth
7. The woman in the the basket of figs, representing the root of wickedness of the current world order and its depraved source in ancient times - Babylon. The first nation that scattered Judah.
8.The 4 chariots representing the LORD's armies patrolling the whole earth.
THE MESSIAH. THE ANOINTED ONE.
This is immediately followed by the coronation scene in CHAPTER 6 in which JOSHUA the HIGH PRIEST is crowned both as High Priest and King. This represents the office of the Messiah. He is both an eternal High Priest and an eternal King.
The office of His priesthood is represented by His first Coming when HE came as the eternal High Priest to gave His LIFE as a ransom for sin. Not through the blood of animals, but through the precious and incorruptible Blood of the Son of God. This is the first coming and the office that the leaders of Israel could neither understand nor accept.
In His second coming He will sit and reign on the throne of David, as King of Judah. Now what is awesome about this crowning scene is the fact that it reveals the very NAME of the MESSIAH! Let us look at the following scriptures:
Zechariah Chapter 6
11 Take the silver and gold and make a crown, and set it on the head of the high priest, Joshua son of Jehozadak. 12 Tell him this is what the LORD Almighty says: `Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the LORD. 13 It is he who will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.'
THE HEBREW NAME OF THE MESSIAH REVEALED
What is absolutely amazing about this high priest, Joshua, is the fact that the Bible gives us two distinct names for the same person. His full name YEHOSHUA and its abbreviated form YESHUA. The first means YHVH SAVED. The second HE WILL SAVE.
The full name is to be found in the books of Haggai and Zechariah, but the abbreviated form is found throughout the books of Ezra and Nehemiah - that deals with the same people and events! Haggai and Zechariah approaches it from a prophetic angle and Ezra and Nehemiah from a historic angle. Now the name YESHUA is the modern Hebrew word that is used for JESUS in Israel today!!! Its meaning is (from the Strongs):
3442 Yeshuwa` (yay-shoo'-ah);
for 3091; HE WILL SAVE;
Jeshua, the name of ten Israelites, also of a place in Israel.
Now let us read the Gospel account involving the Messiah's Name:
Matthew Chapter 1
21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because HE WILL SAVE His people from their sins."
GOD'S PUNISHMENT AND LATER DETERMINATION TO BLESS ISRAEL AND JUDAH
In chapter 7 GOD questions the religious formalities of the land and their failure serve HIM in true uprightness - and the consequences of this:
Zechariah Chapter 7
14 I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations, where they were strangers. The land was left so desolate behind them that no one could come or go. This is how they made the pleasant land desolate.
Then in Chapter 8 GOD expresses His faithfulness and zeal over Jerusalem, and His determinacy to bless the land in the latter days.
Zechariah Chapter 8
2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her." 3 This is what the LORD says: "I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain." 4 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with cane in hand because of his age. 5 The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there." 6 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "It may seem marvellous to the remnant of this people at that time, but will it seem marvellous to me?" declares the LORD Almighty. 7 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "I will save my people from the countries of the east and the west. 8 I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem; they will be my people, and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God."
To overturn the destiny of Israel and Judah's wandering in the nations. In the latter days the LORD does this in spite of their failure to serve HIM uprightly.
Zechariah Chapter 8
13 As you have been an object of cursing among the nations, O Judah and Israel, so will I save you, and you will be a blessing. Do not be afraid, but let your hands be strong." 14 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Just as I had determined to bring disaster upon you and showed no pity when your fathers angered me," says the LORD Almighty, 15 "so now I have determined to do good again to Jerusalem and Judah. Do not be afraid.
JOY INSTEAD OF MOURNING
At the end of chapter 8 the promise of revival and joy instead of mourning over the past destruction of the people and their temple.
Zechariah Chapter 8
19 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah. Therefore lovetruth and peace."
NATIONS WILL COME UP TO JERUSALEM
The promise that the nations will come up to experience the awesome blessing of this mighty revival in GOD's land. Let's look at it
20 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come, 21 and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, `Let us go at once to entreat the LORD and seek the LORD Almighty. I myself am going.' 22 And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty and to entreat him." 23 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "In those days ten men from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, `Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.'"
Then in chapters 9 we have a build-up to the final conflict to make JERU
SALEM a praise in all the earth. This build-up we covered in part in one of this series: the war with the Palestinians and those that are working with them for the destruction of Israel.
THE WAR AGAINST JERUSALEM
The war that is covered in Zechariah chapters 9 and 10 eclipses from the battle against Islam to the battle against the anti-Christ (represented by the Prince of Greece). This simply means that there will be a regional war against the surrounding Islamic nations, followed by greater war against Islam. It is the war through which Israel will be saved. The rise of the anti-Christ is then depicted as the Prince of Greece in the book of Daniel and is also mentioned in Zechariah.
Zechariah Chapter 9
13 I will bend Judah as I bend my bow and fill it with Ephraim. I will rouse your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece, and make you like a warrior's sword.
In the same manner that Daniel saw the removal of the Prince of Persia and the coming of the Prince of Greece. Persia represents Islam and Greece represents humanism. Making man God. Exactly what the anti-Christ will try to do. Incidentally, Persia today is Iran, the country that is mentioned first and foremost in the Gog Magog War! The war prophesied in Ezekiel 38-39
Daniel Chapter 10
20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I am come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I go forth, lo, the prince of Greece shall come. 21 But I will tell thee that which is inscribed in the writing of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me against these, but Michael your prince.
RESTORATION BETWEEN THE DISPERSED OF JUDAH AND THE EPHRAIM, THE LATTER RAINS
In chapters 9 and 10 the LORD also touches on the restoration between the dispersed of Judah and the dispersed of Ephraim (the ancient northern Kingdom of Israel that got lost in the nations). What is very important in this regard though is that this issue is preceded by a call for the latter rains.
Zechariah Chapter 10
1 Ask the LORD for rain in the springtime; it is the LORD who makes the storm clouds. He gives showers of rain to men, and plants of the field to everyone.
The latter rains represent the last revival on earth before the Millennium, and we also read about it in the book of Joel, which we touched on with the redemption of Israel (fourth instalment of our series)
THE FINAL BATTLE OVER JERUSALEM AND THE RETURN OF THE MESSIAH
Then in chapters 12-14 we find the height of the conflict: the battle over Jerusalem and the salvation of the Jewish people. Which eventually leads to His return to the Mount of Olives and the earth. .

Als wir diesen Brief schrieben, befand sich Israel in tiefer Trauer über ein weiteres Selbstmordattentat. In einer teuflischen Strategie gegen dieses Volk raste an der Megiddo-Kreuzung ein Selbstmordattentäter mit einem Wagen voller Sprengstoff direkt in einen Bus hinein. Vielleicht habt ihr die verkohlten Reste des Busses auf euren Bildschirmen gesehen. Viele Menschen sind gestorben. Die meisten Opfer waren Soldaten. Gestern abend und heute morgen habe ich ihre jungen Gesichter in den Nachrichten gesehen.
Bedeutend ist dabei, dass dieses Bombenattentat von gestern, dem 5. Juni, mit dem Beginn des Sechstage-Krieges in 1967 zusammenfällt. Durch diesen erstaunlichen Krieg hat Jerusalem seine Freiheit erlangt. Die Stadt des Grossen Königs kam wieder unter die vereinte jüdische Führung nach Tausenden von Jahren! Psalm 48: 1-2, Lukas 21: 24, Matthäus 5: 35. Verschiedene arabische Länder, angeführt durch Aegypten, versuchten Israel von der Erdoberfläche wegzuwischen. Doch der Herr schenkte Israel einen Sieg in kurzen sechs Tagen! Und was prophetisch von Bedeutung ist: Jerusalem wurde als die ungeteilte Hauptstadt des modernen jüdischen Staates zurückgewonnen!
Welche Gebiete wurden befreit?
Zum Gebiet, das 1967 befreit wurde, gehört auch die alte Stadt Davids, Zion genannt. Es ist der Ort, wo zur Zeit Davids Jerusalem die Hauptstadt Israels wurde. Zu diesem Gebiet gehört auch der Tempelberg, auf dem einst der glorreiche Tempel des Salomos stand, sowie der zweite Tempel aus der Zeit Serubbabel, Jeschuas und Nehemias. Hier befindet sich ebenfalls die Altstadt von Jerusalem und die Klagemauer. Und schliesslich liegt da auch der Oelberg, wo für Jesus im Garten Gethsemane die Qualen anfingen und wo er nach Seiner Auferstehung in den Himmel aufgenommen wurde. Es ist derselbe Berg, auf den ER gemäss der Schrift zurückkommt.
Sacharja 14
4 Seine Füsse werden an jenem Tag auf dem Oelberg stehen, der im Osten gegenüber Jerusalem liegt. Der Oelberg wird sich in der Mitte spalten, und es entsteht ein gewaltiges Tal von Osten nach Westen. Die eine Hälfte des Berges weicht nach Norden und die andere Hälfte nach Süden.
In diesem Teil unserer Serie über die letzten Kriege, die Israel ausfechten muss, geht es gerade um das Buch Sacharja und die Schlüsselrolle Jerusalems.
Die Mächte der Hölle sind darauf aus, den wunderbaren Sieg von 1967 rückgängig zu machen. Sie wollen die jüdische Herrschaft über Jerusalem ausradieren - die Stadt, die 1967 befreit wurde und die Yassir Arafat und sein tödliches Terrornetzwerk als ihre Hauptstadt haben wollen. Schliesslich läuft es auf die gewaltigen Taten Gottes hinaus, die die Mächte der Finsternis zunichte machen werden.
Megiddo
Es scheint bedeutend zu sein, dass dieses Selbstmordattentat an der Megiddo-Kreuzung passiert ist. Megiddo ist der Ort, wo der Krieg gegen die Horden des Antichristen stattfinden wird. Es geht um den Harmagedon-Krieg, der Krieg vor der Rückkehr Christi.
Offenbarung 16
16 Die Geister führten die Könige an dem Ort zusammen, der auf hebräisch Harmagedon heisst.
Sacharja und Jerusalem
Wir möchten jetzt die Rettung Israels aus der Sicht der Prophetien von Sacharja erklären. Sacharja ist eine der klarsten prophetischen Stimmen über die Wiederherstellung Jerusalems in den letzten Tagen und ihre zukünftige Herrlichkeit. Er schreibt über Jerusalem im Hinblick auf Gottes Erlösungsabsichten für Israel und die Welt. Sacharja geht in seinen Ausführungen so tief, dass wir in diesem und dem nächsten Teil nur die Oberfläche berühren können! Falls ihr euch für einen detaillierteren Kommentar interessiert, bitten wir euch, uns zu schreiben. Es gibt so viel mehr über dieses Buch zu sagen.
Das Buch beginnt nach einem kurzen Aufruf zur Busse mit acht Visionen. Vision über den Mann und die Pferde, die die Erde durchkreuzen; Gottes Absichten die Juden in ihre alte Heimat zurückzubringen und Jerusalem wieder aufzubauen. In dieser Vision offenbart Gott sein Herz für diese Stadt auf eine ganz klare Art und Weise.
Sacharja 1
14 Da sagte mir der Engel, der mit mir redete: Verkünde, so spricht der Herr der Heere, mit grossem Eifer trete ich für Jerusalem und Zion ein, 15 aber ich bin voll glühendem Zorn gegen die Völker, die sich in falscher Sicherheit wiegen. Ich war nur ein wenig erzürnt, sie aber halfen zum Verderben. 16 Darum, so spricht der Herr, voll Erbarmen wende ich mich Jerusalem wieder zu. Man wird mein Haus dort aufbauen - Spruch des Herrn der Heere - und die Richtschnur über Jerusalem spannen.
17 Weiter verkünde: So spricht der Herr der Heere: Meine Städte werden wieder überfliessen von allen Gütern. Der Herr wird Zion wieder trösten und er wird Jerusalem wieder auserwählen.
Vision über die vier Hörner und die Schmiede. Die Hörner stehen für Kräfte, die Juda zerstreut hatten. Sie stehen für die Kraft der Nationen, die ihre Macht gegen Israel erhoben, um das jüdische Volk (Juda) zu zerstreuen. Gleiches macht sich heute
in den Bemühungen der Nationen bemerkbar, Israel und Jerusalem aufzuteilen und einen palästinensischen Staat zu gründen.
Vision über den Mann mit der Messschnur: ein apokalyptischer Einblick in Gottes schöne und friedliche Stadt. Hier sind einige Verse:
Sacharja 2
8 ...und sagte zu ihm: Lauf und sag dem jungen Mann dort, Jerusalem wird eine offene Stadt sein wegen der vielen Menschen und Tiere, die darin wohnen 9 Ich selbst - Spruch des Herrn - werde für die Stadt ringsum eine Mauer von Feuer sein und in ihrem Innern ihr Ruhm und ihre Ehre. 10 Auf, auf! Flieht aus dem Land des Nordens - Spruch des Herrn. Denn wie die vier Winde des Himmels habe ich euch zerstreut - Spruch des Herrn.
In diesem Kapitel drückt Gott klar Seine wahren Gefühle und Mitleid mit dem jüdischen Volk aus. Jeder Nichtjude sollte es zur Kenntnis nehmen, damit sich keiner über Gottes Sicht der Tragödie und die Wiederherstellung seines Volkes täuscht!
12 Denn so spricht der Herr der Heere - er hat mich mit Herrlichkeit zu den Völkern gesandt, die euch ausgeplündert haben. Wer euch antastet, tastet meinen Augapfel an.
Und wir sollten nicht vergessen, dass das absolute Zentrum der künftigen messianischen Ordnung nicht in den Städten Amerikas oder Europa angesiedelt sein wird, sondern in Jerusalem, Israel.
15 An jenem Tag werden sich viele Völker dem Herrn anschliessen, und sie werden mein Volk sein, und ich werde in deiner Mitte wohnen. Dann wirst du erkennen, dass der Herr der Heere mich zu dir gesandt hat. 16 Der Herr aber wird Juda in Besitz nehmen; es wird sein Anteil im Heiligen Land sein. Und er wird Jerusalem wieder auserwählen.17 Alle Welt schweige in der Gegenwart des Herrn. Denn er tritt hervor aus seinerheiligen Wohnung.
Vision über den Hohenpriester Jeschua im Kapitel 3, die die Reinigung von Sünden und die künftige messianische Ordung darstellt.
Die ehrfurchtgebietende Vision über den Leuchter zwischen den Olivenbäumen im Kapitel 4. Es ist das Werk des Heiligen Geistes, der die endzeitlichen Absichten Gottes geschehen lässt.
Vision über die fliegende Rolle im Kapitel 5: Ein Fluch Gottes, der über die ganze Erde dahinfliegt, um Diebstahl und Meineid zu rächen.
Vision über die Frau im Fass, die die Wurzel aller Bosheit der heutigen Welt ist und ihren Ursprung im alten Babylon hat. Es war die erste Nation, die Juda zerstreute.
Vision über die vier Wagen, die Gottes Heere darstellen und die Erde durchziehen.
Der Messias - der Gesalbte
Auf die achte Vision folgt im Kapitel 6 die Krönung von JESCHUA zum Hohenpriester und König. Das symbolisiert das Amt des Messias. Er ist beides: Der ewige Hohepriester und der König. Das Amt Seiner Priesterschaft ist mit Seinem ersten Kommen gleichzusetzen, als ER als der ewige Hohepriester kam und Sein Leben als Lösegeld für die Sünde gab. Nicht durch das Blut der Tiere, sondern durch das kostbare und unzerstörbare Blut des Sohnes Gottes geschieht Sühne. Das ist das erste Kommen und das Amt, das die Führer Israels weder verstehen noch akzeptieren.
Nach seinem zweiten Kommen wird er auf dem Thron Davids sitzen und als König von Juda regieren. Grossartig an dieser Krönungszeremonie ist, dass sie den wahren Namen des Messias enthüllt. Schaut euch diese Verse an:
Sacharja 6
11 Nimm Silber und Gold, mach eine Krone, setze sie dem Hohenpriester JESCHUA, dem Sohn Jozadak, aufs Haupt,
12 und sag zu ihm: So spricht der Herr der Heere: Da ist ein Mann, Spross ist sein Name; denn wo er steht, wird es sprossen, und er wird den Tempel des Herrn bauen.
13 Er ist es, der den Tempel des Herrn baut. Er ist mit Hoheit bekleidet. Er sitzt auf seinem Thron und herrscht. Ein Priester steht an seinem Thron und gemeinsam sorgen sie für den Frieden.
Der hebräische Name des Messias wird enthüllt
An diesem Hohenpriester Jeschua ist total erstaunlich, dass die Bibel uns zwei ver- schiedene Namen zu ein und derselben Person gibt. Sein voller Name ist JEHOSCHUA und er wird abgekürzt als JESCHUA. Der erste bedeutet "Der Herr hat gerettet", der zweite "Er wird retten".
Den vollen Namen finden wir in den Büchern Haggai und Sacharja, die abgekürzte Form in den Büchern Esra und Nehemia - beides hat aber mit der gleichen Person und Er- eignissen zu tun!
Haggai und Sacharja gehen sie prophetisch an, Esra und Nehemia historisch. Der Name Jeschua ist der moderne hebräische Name, der heute in Israel für Jesus gebraucht wird!!! Seine Bedeutung ist:
3442 Yeshuwa für 3091; "Er wird retten"
Jeschua, der Name der zehn Israeliten und auch eines Ortes in Israel.
Lasst uns jetzt die Bibelstelle lesen, in der der Name des Messias vorkommt:
Matthäus 1
21 Sie wird einen Sohn gebären; ihm sollst du den Namen Jesus geben; denn ER WIRD sein Volk von seinen Sünden ERLOESEN.
Gottes Strafe und das Versprechen Israel und Juda zu segnen.
Im Kapitel 7 hinterfrägt Gott die religiösen Formalitäten des Volkes und ihr Versagen ihm aufrichtig zu dienen - und die Konsequenzen davon:
Sacharja 7
14 Ich habe sie unter alle Völker verweht, die ihnen unbekannt waren. Nach ihnen verödete das Land, so dass niemand mehr darin hin- und herzog, und so haben sie das Land der Freuden zur Wüste gemacht.
Dann im Kapitel 8 bringt Gott Seine Treue und Eifer über Jerusalem zum Ausdruck und Seine Entschlossenheit, das Land in den letzten Tagen zu segnen.
Sacharja 8
2 So spricht der Herr der Heere: Mit grossem Eifer trete ich ein für Zion, ich setze mich glühend ein für Jerusalem. 2 So spricht der Herr: Ich kehre zurück nach Zion und wohne wieder in Jerusalem. Dann wird Jerusalem "Stadt der Treue" heissen und der Berg des Herrn der Heere "Heiliger Berg". 4 So spricht der Herr der Heere: Greise und Greisinnen werden wieder auf den Plätzen Jerusalems sitzen; jeder hält wegen seines hohen Alters einen Stock in der Hand.
5 Die Strassen der Stadt werden voll Knaben und Mädchen sein, die auf den Strassen Jerusalems spielen. 6 So spricht der Herr der Heere: Wenn das dem Rest dieses Volkes in jenen Tagen zu wunderbar erscheint, muss es dann auch mir zu wunderbar erscheinen? - Spruch des Herrn der Heere. 7 So spricht der Herr der Heere: Seht, ich werde mein Volk befreien aus dem Land des Sonnenaufgangs und aus dem Land des Sonnenuntergangs. 8 Ich werde sie heimbringen, und sie werden in Jerusalem wohnen. Sie werden mein Volk sein, und ich werde ihr Gott sein, unwandelbar und treu.
Er wird das Schicksal Israels und Judas - das Wandern durch die Nationen - wenden. In den letzten Tagen wird das der Herr tun, trotz ihres Versagens ihm mit aufrichtigem Herzen zu dienen.
Sacharja 8
13 und wie ihr, Haus Juda und Haus Israel, ein Fluch unter den Völkern gewesen seid, so werde ich euch erretten, damit ihr ein Segen seid. Fürchtet euch nicht! Macht eure Hände stark! 14 Denn so spricht der Herr der Heere: Wie ich plante, euch Böses zu tun, und es mich nicht reute, weil eure Väter mich erzürnten, spricht der Herr der Heere,
15 so kehre ich jetzt um und plane in diesen Tagen, Jerusalem und dem Haus Juda Gutes zu tun. Fürchtet euch nicht.
Freude statt Trauer
Am Ende des 8. Kapitels finden wir die Verheissung der Erweckung und Freude statt Trauer über die Zerstörung des Volkes und ihres Tempels. 19 So spricht der Herr der Heere: Das Fasten des vierten, das Fasten des fünften, das Fasten des siebten und das Fasten des zehnten Monats werden für das Haus Juda Tage des Jubels und der Freude und froher Feste sein. Darum liebt die Treue und den Frieden!
Völker werden zu Jerusalem hinaufziehen
Wir finden hier auch die Verheissung, dass die Völker hinaufziehen werden, um den ge- waltigen Segen dieser grossen Erweckung in Gottes Land zu erfahren. Hier ist sie:
20 So spricht der Herr der Heere: Es wird noch geschehen, dass Völker herbeikommen und die Einwohner vieler Städte. 21 Die Ein-wohner der einen Stadt werden zur anderen gehen und sagen: Wir wollen gehen, um den Zorn des Herrn zu besänftigen und den Herrn der Heere zu suchen. Auch ich will hingehen.
22 Viele Völker und mächtige Nationen werden kommen, um in Jerusalem den Herrn der Heere zu suchen und den Zorn des Herrn zu besänftigen.
23 So spricht der Herr der Heere: In jenen Tagen werden zehn Männer aus Völkern aller Sprachen einen Mann aus Juda an seinem Gewand fassen, ihn festhalten und sagen: Wir wollen mit euch gehen; denn wir haben gehört: Gott ist mit euch.
Der Krieg gegen Jerusalem
Im Kapitel 9 finden wir dann eine Intensivierung der letzten Auseinandersetzung, die Jerusalem auf der ganzen Erde berühmt machen wird. Diese Zuspitzung haben wir uns bereits in einem anderen Teil unserer Serie angeschaut. Es ging um den Krieg der Palästinenser und derjenigen, die ihnen bei der Zerstörung Israels mithelfen. Der in Sacharja 9 und 10 beschriebene Krieg entwickelt sich vom Krieg gegen den Islam zur Schlacht gegen den Antichristen (symbolisiert durch den Prinzen von Griechenland). Das bedeutet, dass es einen regionalen Krieg gegen die benachbarten islamischen Völker geben wird, gefolgt durch einen grösseren Krieg gegen den Islam. Gerade durch diesen Krieg wird Israel errettet. Der Aufstieg des Antichristen ist beschrieben als Prinz von Griechenland im Buch Daniel und wird im Buch Sacharja erwähnt.
Sacharja 9
13 Denn ich spanne mir Juda als Bogen und lege Efraim als Pfeil darauf. Ich rufe deine Söhne, Zion, zum Kampf gegen die Söhne Jawans, ich mache dich zum Schwert eines Helden.
("Jawan" wird in der englischen Bibel mit "Griechenland" übersetzt.)
Auf die gleiche Weise sah Daniel die Beseitigung des Prinzen von Persien und das Kommen des Prinzen von Griechenland. Persien steht für Islam, Griechenland steht für Humanismus (Mensch wird zu Gott gemacht). Genau das versucht der Antichrist zu tun. Uebrigens ist Persien der heutige Iran und dieses Land wird im Gog-Magog-Krieg als erstes erwähnt. Ueber den Krieg wird in Ezechiel 38-39 prophezeit.
Daniel 10
20 Er sagte: Weisst du, warum ich zu dir gekommen bin? Ich muss bald zurückkehren und mit dem Engelfürsten von Persien kämpfen. Wenn ich mit ihm fertig bin, dann wird der Engelfürst von Jawan kommen.
21 Vorher aber will ich dir mitteilen, was im Buch der Wahrheit aufgezeichnet ist. Doch keiner hilft mir tatkräftig gegen sie ausser eurem Engelfürsten Michael.
Sammlung der Zerstreuten von Juda und Efraim, der Spätregen
In Sacharja Kapitel 9 und 10 berührt der Herr die Sammlung der zerstreuten Judäer und Efraimiter (d.h. das alte nordisraelische Königreich, das sich in den Nationen verloren hat). Wir werden uns mit diesem Geheimnis später unter dem Titel "Die Heiden in voller Zahl" befassen. In diesem Zusammenhang ist aber von Bedeutung, dass der Ruf nach dem Spätregen vorangeht.

Sacharja 10
1 Bittet den Herrn um Regen zur Regenzeit im Frühjahr! Der Herr lässt Gewitterwolken entstehen, er füllt sie mit Regen und gibt den Menschen das Grün auf dem Feld.

Der letzte Kampf um Jerusalem und das Kommen des Messias
In den letzten Kapiteln 12-14 finden wir den Höhepunkt des Konflikts: die Schlacht um Jerusalem und die Erlösung des jüdischen Volkes, die endlich zu Seiner Rückkehr auf den Oelberg und die Erde führen wird.

The book of Joel is very significant in that it speaks about the national salvation of Israel, the threat of the northern army , the final outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Israel (and all flesh) and the judgment of GOD on the nations. It also deals with the so called DAY OF THE LORD.
JOEL AND THE OUTPOURING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AT PENTECOST
In Israel the Feast of Shavuot (or Pentecost) has just been celebrated. It was during the feast of Shavuot that some of the prophecies in the book of Joel were partially fulfilled - in the year that JESUS ascended to heaven. After this event the Holy Spirit was poured out and the Church of JESUS CHRIST was birthed - on the Day of Pentecost. Peter quoted from Joel 2:28-32 in his address to the crowd when this occurred.
Acts Chapter 2
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to ass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19 And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and apour of smoke: 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: 21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
LATTER DAY FULFILLMENT
It is very clear, however, that a further and more complete fulfilment awaits this prophecy because a lot of things stated in Joel did not happen on the Day of Pentecost. Let us look at some of them:
Joel 2:11 - An army of enormous destruction coming against Israel
Joel 2:12-17 - A massive call to repentance in Israel. The call is issued to the elders, the children, the priests, the LORD’s ministers. It is a solemn assembly - sounding like the description of the mourning that will take place in Zechariah 12:10-14; when the eyes of the nation is opened to behold their Messiah. But we will come to that at a later opportunity.
Joel 2:20 - A very clear word from GOD that He will remove the Northern Army far from Israel, driving it into a parched and desolate land, its vanguard into the Eastern Sea (The Dead Sea) and its rear guard into the Western (Mediterranean) Sea. This will cause a great stench. Now compare these words with Ezekiel 39:11-15, which is a very clear confirmation that we are dealing with the same war. In our last letter we looked at Ezekiel. Let us quote these scriptures from Joel and Ezekiel in parallel:
Joel Chapter 2
20 But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the western sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.
Ezekiel Chapter 11
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place for burial in Israel, the valley of them that pass through on the east of the sea; and it shall stop them that pass through: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude; and they shall call it The valley of Hamon-gog 12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying them, that they may cleanse the land
THE LATTER RAIN
Then, in Joel 2:23 we come to the well known "Latter Rain" promise, referring to the last end time revival on earth. This revival will excel the revival on the Day of Pentecost, when the early church was birthed, like the combined rains of the early and latter rains in Israel together transcend the early rains.
Joel 2:28 - 32 is the scripture quoted by Peter on the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the early church. His quotation can be read in Acts 2:16-20. There are major things in this scripture, though, that were not fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost. They are:
Joel Chapter 2
30 And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood before the great and terrible day of Jehovah cometh 32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of Jehovah shall be delivered; for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those that escape, as Jehovah hath said, and among the remnant those whom Jehovah doth call
THE DAY OF THE LORD
Israel’s salvation and this great revival will eventually eclipse in the Day of the LORD when GOD’s wrath is poured out on His enemies. We do not know what the time span of the revival really will be. But we do know that the LORD promises that whoever calls on His Name shall be delivered. For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape, even from the survivors whom GOD calls.
The last chapter of Joel very specifically deals with the judgment of the nations and the final war before the LORD’s return. This will then be the war of Armageddon (Hebrew: Har Megido) as it is described in the Book of Revelations. The hordes of the anti-Christ are assembled for the battle on the great Day of the LORD. This battle takes place with the return of the Messiah and it is oulined in Revelations 16:13-18.
Revelation Chapter 16
13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. 16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
THE VALLEY OF JEHOSHAPHAT
There is a Valley in Jerusalem that features prominently in the process described by Joel. This Valley is called the VALLEY OF JEHOSHAPHAT. It is also called THE VALLEY OF DECISION. The Valley that falls between the Mount of Olives and the Temple Mount is called the Kidron Valley. But it also has another name, THE VALLEY OF JEHOSHAPHAT. The name JEHOSHAPHAT actually means YEHOVAH JUDGED. It is the valley that is right in front of the Garden of Gethsemane. Then it runs all the way south east until it reaches Jericho and the Dead Sea.
God judged our sins in YESHUA through the cross, and atonement was made for us through the divine Blood of His SON. The first place where this Blood was shed was in this Garden of Gethsemane, right IN FRONT of the Kidron Valley.
But there is also a judgment coming for those who reject HIM; and the nations who will refuse the LORDSHIP of JESUS the Messiah and His Jewish authority over Jerusalem. These will then have to bear the consequences of their deeds themselves. This will happen in the DAY OF THE LORD. These are the events leading up to the return of the Messiah and also the terrible Judgment for those who will be found without Him.
THE BIRTHPAINS OF THE MESSIAH AND THE DAY OF YEHOVAH

Many ancient Rabbinical writers saw in the Scriptures that the coming of the King Messiah will be preceded by a time of immense suffering. During this time Zion (Jerusalem) will be in travail and a faithful remnant of Israel will be birthed into the Messianic Age.
What does the example of childbirth teach about the coming of the Messiah? It teaches that the salvation the Messiah brings to Israel and the earth will come at the apex, the climax of a great tribulation. The worst that Israel and the world has ever known. This will be a time of judgment but also a time of deliverance. This coincide with the words of YESHUA:
Matthew Chapter 24
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand 16 Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house 21 for then shall be great tribulation such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, no nor ever shall be.
This tribulation will fall in the first 7 years of the 1000 YEAR PERIOD that is called the DAY OF THE LORD. Or the DAY OF YEHOVAH. Remember that 1 day is as a thousand years to the LORD and a thousand years as one day. Therefore the term DAY OF YEHOVAH. This 1000 year period is the true Millennium, when the Messiah will reign from Jerusalem over all the earth. It is the 1000 years of Peace, the 7th thousand year. God created the heavens and the earth in 6 days and on the 7th HE rested. Since Adam history spans about 6000 years. The 7th thousand is to be the Millennium of Rest.
The first 7 years of this 1000 year Millennium brings on the travail for the return of the MESSIAH to the earth. It coincides with the 7 years in which Israel will use the energy of the armament of the Gog Magog multitudes in Ezekiel 38-39 for domestic purposes after the war. The war we looked at in the previous instalment.
The great tribulation starts in the middle of the 7 years. It also coincides with the last 3 and a half years of the book of Revelations and the middle of the last 7 years of Daniel’s Messianic prophecy. Daniel 9:24-27. Let us quote verse 27:
Daniel Chapter 9
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
KING JEHOSHAPHAT
To tell the story of the Valley of Jehosophat, and how it fits together with the Day of the LORD, let us go to the geographical setup of Jerusalem’s Kidron Valley. When we stand down in the Kidron near the Spring of Gihon (the original fresh water supply to the ancient City of David) and look towards the Mount of Olives, there are several ancient tombs that give a special atmosphere to this valley.
There is the Tombs of the Ben Hezir family. Next to this set of ancient tombs is a pillar known as Zechariah’s Monument. This is supposed to be where the prophet Zechariah is to have been buried. You may remember how he was murdered between the porch and the altar. It is interesting that the three last prophets in the Old Testament; Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi are all buried in the vicinity of these ancient places. Zechariah possibly down in the valley and the graves of the other two near the top of the Mount of Olives in a very ancient burial site.
Next to the Ben Hezir family tombs there is another monument, to the left, Absalom’s Pillar. At the back of this Pillar is a cave which is believed to be the burial site of King Jehoshaphat. The Kidron Valley extending from here falls between the Temple Mount and the Mount of Olives is also called the Valley of Jehoshaphat, recalling the utter supernatural victory that God gave the children of Israel when they were attacked by the multitudes of Ammon and Moab. Jehoshaphat was the king of Judah at that time and when the enemies were camping at En Gedi (opposite the Dead Sea) he turned his attention to seek the LORD. He did this because he was afraid; and he proclaimed a fast throughout Judah. This was part of his prayer:
2nd Chronicles Chapter 20
12 O our God, wilt thou not judge them for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel a Levite, and he declared to the congregation:

15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours but God's 16 To morrow go ye down against them behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel 17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you 18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD 19 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high 20 And they rose early in the morning and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper 21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD for his mercy endureth for ever 22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten 23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another 24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth and none escaped.
An amazing thing actually for a king to do! To absolutely go forth in utter weakness - trusting only in the Word and the strength of the LORD. The NAME Jehoshaphat we mentioned before means YEHOVAH JUDGED and how powerful it is when insignificant man looks towards HIM for JUSTICE!
This is also the exact same valley where God will judge the nations in the time that they will come like a swarm of locusts to attack Israel in the end times. This judgment is written in the book of Joel. It is also called THE VALLEY OF DECISION. Let us briefly look at it:
Joel Chapter 3
1 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem 2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.
The issue about parting God’s land is something we will touch on when we look at the prophecies of Israel’s salvation from the point of view of JERUSALEM’S sovereignty. This features in the book of Zechariah.
We have mentioned earlier that the Kidron Valley runs all the way to the Dead Sea and that is where En Gedi is situated. This is where this multitude camped when Jehoshaphat heard about the news. It is amazing when we read in Ezekiel 38-39 that the war in which the Holy Spirit will be poured out on the House of Israel, that God will give the hordes of Gog a burial place there and that it will be called the Valley of Hamon Gog. Literally the Valley of the multitudes of GOG. So hear we have the link then between Jehoshaphat, Joel and Ezekiel. We have already looked at this.
It is very important to understand that Ezekiel 39 says that the Holy Spirit will be poured out on Israel at this time and that all the Jews that are left in the nations will return to their Fatherland. This also will be the war in which God shows Himself holy in the SIGHT OF THE NATIONS, just like He did when He brought the children of Israel so miraculously out of Egypt. Joel prophesied at a time of great devastation to the entire land of Judah. An enormous plague of locusts had robbed the countryside of all vegetation, destroyed the pastures of both the sheep and the cattle, even stripped the bark off the fig trees. In only a few hours what was once a beautiful, verdant land had become a place of desolation and destruction. Contemporary descriptions of the destructive power of swarms of locusts corroborate Joel’s picture of the plague in his time.
The plague of locusts Joel wrote about was greater than anyone had ever seen. All crops were lost and the seed crops for the next planting were destroyed. When one pictures the intensity and swiftness of this natural plague, one gets an understanding of the magnitude of the military threat that will come against Israel from the north.
This natural disaster prepares the picture of the onslaught to come.
The plague, too, is nothing compared to the judgment of God that is coming. This will be a time when not only Judah, but all the nations of the world, will be called before God. It will be a time "the Lord also will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; the heavens and earth will shake" (3:16). There will be deliverance of the remnant in the midst of it.
Terrifying heavenly portents will take place. "The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood" . This will be none other than "the great and awesome day of the LORD (2:31). Let us sum up this section by these very important words of Joel with regards to the Valley of Jehoshaphat:
Joel Chapter 3
14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision 15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining 16 The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel 17 So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.
